Empty Wallet Productions Volume 2
And So It Begins Again . . .After the success of "WereMike" ideas floated around about what to do next. But making no budget movies isn't as easy as grabbing a camera and some people and banging it out. The stakes were raised and Joe and Steve knew that they could do better than Volume 1. This was, after all a learning process. Their intent was to get better with each movie, to show a sort of progression. And although ideas for a sequel to WereMike were percolating, Steve and Joe wanted to try new things. Joe wrote a script and attmpted to shoot a serious short movie in January 2003, to no avail. Actors, when not paid, are hard to come by and sometimes don't show up! Steve wrote another comedy, not as over-the-top as WereMike, but hilarious in its own right, a different kind of funny. Although finished and ready to shoot in April trying to nail down the perfect actors to accompany him, as well as locations, became futile. Months passed as the two slaved away at their "real" jobs. Finally in August 2003, a frustrated Joe got Steve and Darren together to bang a movie out guerrilla style. Steve, a semi-trained actor, reluctantly agreed to help. With no script, the movie was completed, shot and edited, in 5 hours. The result, "Things That Go Dump In the Night" became a sort of "B-side", a movie not fit for public consumption. With no script to follow, and no set game plan, the movie became an exercise for Joe to shoot and edit. But this was not the way to make a movie. It did light a fire under their asses to do it right! So all involved decided to give the people what they want and raise the bar at the same time. The concept for Patula, which formed as a toss away joke at the end of "WereMike", became the basis for the sequel and Steve was hired to write the script. With more and more people wanting to be a part, Steve fashioned a script which expanded the universe created in the first one while maintaining its hilarious appeal. With Steve's script and Joe's technical advances from his job as camera operator/editor, Empty Wallet Productions started work on "Night of the WereMike 2/ Attack of the Patula/ War of the Pot Monsters" in October 2003. Shooting began the first week of October and carried on through the last week of November. The grueling shoot (about the same length of time as an actual fully funded movie) while still working full time, dragged on Steve and Joe. But as true Americans dreaming the American dream, giving up was not an option! After editing over nights and weekends, "Patula" was finally completed in March 2004. Its running time double that of "WereMike" and with funnier situations, better acting, shooting, editing and effects, "Patula" became Empty Wallet Productions "Empire Strikes Back", the rare sequel to completely eclipse the original while furthering the legacy. The progression was on! This is Empty Wallet Production's evolution. This is Volume 2.
