Empty Wallet Productions Volume 1
It all started in 2002 with Joe and Steve banging out "Mice Will Play" over the fourth of July. Frustrated by trying to break into the movie business the normal way, Steve and Joe cranked out the two man classic in 2 days, effects and all. Unsure of what to expect when we started, we were pleasantly surprised with the outcome and inspired to continue. In August, Joe and Steve created "Determination" from an idea Joe couldn't use in film school. The just-over-a-minute experiment actually won over a few fans, who happened to be our own friends! Feeling a little more confident, and inspired by Christopher Walken's "Hessian" character in Sleepy Hollow , and of course, the legendary Donald Pleaseance's Dr. Loomis from the "Halloween" movie series, Joe and Steve with their friends, Mike and Pat came up with "WereMike" while hanging out. Another idea sprang forth! Why not try to make a comedy/horror movie with our friends in the cast? Well we asked that same question and filming of "Night of the WereMike" began in August 2002. With only 2 very short movies to their credit, the outcome of the considerably bolder "Night of the WereMike" came into question. Were we just wasting our time and our friends' time? Fears were rested that something good was on its way when the first preview was shown while filming of the movie continued. Using the actual "Sleepy Hollow" score by Danny Elfman, and borrowing lines from such movies as "Halloween", "Star Trek 2" and "Dungeons and Dragons", memorable characters like Dr. Steven Loomis and WereMike were born. Although a little primitive, the concept and jokes, combined with hilarious performances carried the movie and eventually "Night of the WereMike" had its triumphant debut in October 2002 at Kanvas Lounge in NYC, the night before Halloween. A phoenix rose from the ashes of dashed hopes! This is America, god damn it! We don't know the meaning of "I can't"! If you fall down, get the hell up and walk again! The 3 short movies and 3 WereMike previews were just baby steps. This is the beginning of Empty Wallet Productions. This is Volume 1.
